In March 2022, Noa Cardelli flew me to Tulum to stay with her.
(Peep the pics below)
It was a trip that awakened her love for dance and inspired my Three Trillion Layers Deep piece, and one that sparked our mutual love for Rufus Du Sol.
I initially said NO to Tulum twice before all systems were go.
I was right both times.
I knew I’d know when it was time to go.
And I was right about that, too.
My visit to Tulum landed during the same week as The Sundream Music Festival at Papaya Playa Project — booked BEFORE Noa and I had even heard of Rufus Du Sol.
(See the gorgeous view of the festival in the last photo below)
We were sitting in a mutual friend’s kitchen (she lived in the same complex as Noa) when we heard their music for the first time, and tears came to our eyes.
Our friend basically introduced us to a sonic portal to heaven.
I was taken to another world.
It was a beautifully overwhelming and heart-exploding experience.
Then through the magic of life unfolding, we discover that they are playing in Tulum (of course), and the three of us showed up to this sold-out Rufus Du Sol concert with no tickets in hand, and still ended up at the concert without paying a dime (again, of course).
It was one of the very best nights of my life.
The potency of that experience was, and still is, beyond words.
And…
I’ve seen Rufus Du Sol play live in Montreal twice since then.
Also,
this is The Tulum Spotify Playlist I created during my trip that perfectly encapsulates the time I spent there.
And below is a wee collection of photos of my visit featuring the bikinis that accompanied it.
You can click on any photo to enlarge it.
And soon you will find
That the so-called outside world
And the so-called inside world
come together
They are a happening
And everything is simply a happening
And all you're doing is watching it
(Lyrics from Come Together - a track I fell in love with in Tulum)
