My ASMR Adventure
Ben: “What inspired you to start the ASMR video series?”
Fun Fact: I’m not even a fan of ASMR — I much prefer silence or a great track — BUT…
The first handwriting reel I made (which I did just to direct people to my website) didn’t work with music at all. The music competed with the message being written so based on that, I went music-free and let the natural sounds be part of the magic.
So I wasn’t ‘inspired’ per se.
I just did what worked for that first piece which also worked for every subsequent one.
So for me it wasn’t a personal preference.
It’s just was the piece(s) required.
But my four favourite videos to date within this series are the vintage shell ring, the monster rabbit necklace, the fingerless gloves, and the recent one month compilation — all of which are set to music and none of which include my handwriting.
This doesn’t change the fact that I love showcasing my Mandy Bites with my handwriting even with all that scritchin’ and scratchin’, which was a natural evolution after the first reel got such a lovely response.
The process of making these reels is so damn satisfying.
Choosing the bite and the visual and the filter and the whole editing process is just incredible for me, and the ASMR aspect is just something that’s integral to the piece but it’s personally irrelevant for me.
As I wrote last month…
“Art is deeply personal and completely impersonal.”
I just do what I’m told.
