Every month of being shampoo-free seems to get better and better. My hair routine hasn't changed in a few months - I still wash and condition with 1 egg about once a week and sometimes switch it up with a baking soda wash and apple cider vinegar rinse - but what has changed is my comfort with my own hair.
As mentioned in Shampoo-Free (Month 7), I've noticed my hair has been growing pretty quickly. Usually by this length I get my hair cut for one of three reasons: 1. It's dry and has a number of split ends so I cut it back to the length of perfect health. 2. I hate the feeling of hair on my upper back. Like really hate it. So chop, chop, chop! 3. The previous style is long outgrown and I need it to be reshaped and that always means losing length. Always. No matter how much they tell you they'll leave the length, they never do.
This has meant that all my attempts over the past few years to grow my hair longish have failed. The last time I had long hair was in grade 2. Then I cut it super short and I've kept it fairly short for much of my childhood and adult life. I even shaved it while I was pregnant at 18 and shaved it multiple times over the next few years. No, I wasn't a punk. Yes, it looked good.
But back to my newest hair goal...
MY NEW GOAL: LONG HAIR
Now that I'm not facing any of the three issues mentioned above that prevented me from happily growing my hair past this length, I'm going to give long hair a whirl. How long? No idea. But long enough to have it be considered long hair.
It appears that going shampoo-free and getting my My First DevaCurl Haircut back in December were the two magic ingredients for making this new goal possible. Even after 6 months I have no split ends, my hair is not dry, my waves feel soft and lovely on my upper back, and the cut still looks amazing!
I have no reason to trim as of yet and every reason to just keep doing what I'm doing and see how long it can get while remaining healthy. That's the key for me. I don't want length at the expense of health. I want both. If I'm gonna have long, lovely locks, they're gonna look and feel amazing.
See you in month 9!
