Happy 20th birthday to the most beautiful girl in my world! What an exceptional beauty. Paige isn't just physically stunning either, FYI; every bit of her is beautiful - head to toe and inside out.
She remains the greatest gift of my life.
I am so proud of my girl and who she is as a person and the light and beauty she brings to the world. Paige is filled with love and goodness and she just oozes talent and creativity. She possesses a great mind, is an old soul and has the purest of hearts.
And now my little girl is 20. TWENTY!
On her 16th birthday, I took Paige to get her first tattoo. On her 19th birthday, we danced all night at Starlight. And this year I won't be seeing her at all because she's created a lovely life all her own. Plus, she's outgrown thinking it's actually cool to hang out with me. She also defriended me on Facebook last month simply because I'm her mom. Yeah, it broke my heart a little.
Regardless, I shall celebrate two decades of motherhood and her increasing independence with a smile.
From the moment they are born, our job as parents is to master the art of letting go. Our children are not "ours" to keep; they belong to themselves and to life and we are simply their guides and their hosts for a period of time as they fumble and grow into the person they are to become.
They are also our whole hearts though, aren't they?
Yet tragically and naturally, they will always mean more to us than we could ever mean to them, but isn't that enough? To love another being as deeply as we love our own child...well that is a love like no other. All loves are unique, and my love for Paige is a special kind of love because she was made right in my belly and we have experienced so much of our lives together.
But she was bound to grow up eventually...
I wish my little girl another year of self-discovery and fun, increasing freedom and independence (even if it pulls at this mama bear's heart a lil bit each time) and I can't forget great clothes, great makeup and great hair because these are the things Paige really loves.
With a heart full of pride,

POST SCRIPT (ANIMALS JUST KNOW)
Today I woke up with Chloe on my belly. This is a first. She usually sleeps at my feet or at my sides.
Not only that, when I went to pet her she gave me about a dozen kisses and Chloe has never kissed anyone! Not even Paige! Chloe usually bites.
So I'm going to believe that this crazy eyed kitty just knew I was feeling especially maternal today and needed a hearty dose of love.
And just for a morning, she sent her purrs right into my belly and held off on the bites long enough for me to know I'm loved.
