Is it sad that I'm no longer surprised by the state of the world?
As long as humans abound, there will be hate and war and strife and oppression and violence and greed and ignorance and destruction.
But as long as humans abound, there will also always be love and peace and freedom and generosity and balance and order and enlightenment and continual rebirth. Both sides coexist simultaneously.
The names will change but history will always repeat itself, as it is doing right now (to our collective horror), and as it will do long after we are dead. That's the essence of human civilization. It sucks. It's ugly. It's inevitable.
As hippy as I am, I don't believe in world peace. I think that's an impossible and a highly unrealistic goal as long as it relies on our entire species to be sane.
But I do believe in the power of an aligned, empowered, reflective and evolving individual. And when you get a few of those creatures together, great things happen.
In my opinion, cultivating inner peace and facing one's own darkness and demons is one of the most powerful ways to affect the world in a positive way. When you're at peace with who you are, you can't even conceive of doing harm to another. Plus, your balanced energy is the medicine this world craves, and others with benefit greatly from your presence.
Taking action to educate, empower and elevate is important and essential, sure, but your own channel must be clear first for it to be effective. How do you actually expect to clean up the mess "out there" when you've yet to clean things up on the inside? Everything starts within. It's so cliche but like most cliches, it's true.
We live in a messy world. We can't fix everything. We're not meant to.
We're meant to keep our sphere in good order so that our own fears and pain and negativity and judgments (we all possess these things) don't bleed out too much like it does with those tortured souls we witness time and time again wreaking havoc on others. Because that's all we're seeing when chaos shows up. Fear and pain expressing itself in full force.
I don't believe that will ever end. I just believe there will always be its opposite expressing itself in full force as well.
Thank goodness for that.
