Have you ever looked up the meaning of each of your names? Tonight on Facebook, Danielle LaPorte suggested that we do, so I did.
As Danielle states: "You should know the definition and origin of all of your names. Each has as vibration, associations, a story that might be a road sign on your path. I also think that if you feel cursed by your name, you should change that damn handle and own your identity." I agree.
Here are my name discoveries:
Mandy: worthy of love
Page: message carrier / attendant / assistant
Richardson: powerful and brave
Roberts (my given last name): renown and bright
Since I get asked this often, yes my birth name is Mandy, not Amanda, but both names share the same meaning. As do Page and Paige (my daughter's name). As mentioned in Oh Na Na, What's My Name?, I was born a Roberts and my last name was legally changed to my stepfather's last name when I was a teen, and now that I know the meaning of it, I can see why I've always attributed strength to the Richardson name.
Although I love the meanings of all of my names, I especially my first one because feeling worthy of my own love has been an incredible challenge and one of the greatest lessons in my life, and something I aspire to fully claim for myself.
In some moments I am able to recognize my inherent worth and each year I love myself more fully than the last, which isn't very full yet but it will be. It is a daily and deliberate practice to trust and believe that I am worthy as I am, and I am lucky enough to have many people in my life who help me to see myself through their eyes when I am blind to what's inside of me and in front of the mirror.
I know that loving myself will eventually come as naturally to me as hating myself once did, and I really feel like I have tipped the scales like a boss in the past 6 months especially. LOVE > HATE. I will do my name proud.
