On this day dedicated to mothers everywhere, I want to send an extra dose of love to the motherless, the unmothered, the strife-ridden mother/daughter duos, single fathers, those who have lost a child through death, disconnection, adoption etc, and those who've been struggling to conceive.
These realities and the pain they bring are felt all year round I'm sure, but I imagine on this day the reminder of what's lacking is like a stab in the heart. I'm going to keep all of you cozy in my bubble of love today.
For those who are lucky enough to have whippersnappers driving them nutty each day, I hope today is filled with all the love and sacred time and genuine appreciation you deserve for all you do each and every day, as well as handmade goodies, lots of glitter and some sweet kisses for good measure.
One day is hardly enough to acknowledge all that you do without a thought of being validated externally, but since the world is dumb and doesn't give kickass awards and proper pay to those who help make and raise humans (no big deal), we've been trained to offer a Hallmark card and a bouquet of flowers to say thank you for the bazillion things you've done, are doing, and will do to make this world a better place by taking care of those you love.
To those with fur babies, thank you for caring for our beloved creatures! As a fur baby mama and grandmama myself, I know how sacred that connection can be - and it's often deeper than our human relationships. Such a pure, sweet love.
Lastly, I want to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all first time mamas! So special. Have the bestest day snuggling your new little treasure!
As for me, I am so grateful for my wonderful relationship with Paige and I love, love, LOVE how close we are. 20 years of blossoming together. We're both so lucky.
I'm also grateful for all the lessons I learned through my challenging relationship with my mother before and after her death. We're in a very good place now. xo
