"Sometimes we push and push and the body won't follow. I gave it all I had, my body, heart and soul." Lykke Li
Man, have I been there.
Lykke Li is one of my favourite artists because of who she is and her commitment to her craft. I was lucky enough to see her perform live in 2009 (Miike Snow opened for her) and I felt right at home despite my aversion to big, loud, people-filled places.
"LL" is what I consider a true artist because she remains true to herself and her art with every single thing that she does. Integrity is not common in the entertainment business, so when a pure soul pops on the scene, it's a rare and beautiful gift to us all.
And when I read Lykke Li's post on Instagram last month (January 5th to be exact), I admired her all the more for making such a big decision in order to honour her body, her limits and herself.
As you all know, this has been the biggest lesson for me these days as well (especially over the past year or two), and I felt so validated just reading her words.
It's not an easy choice to make - to care for yourself at the expense of serving your audience (or in my case, my Too Good Triangles customers), but in the end it's the best choice for all involved.
May we all be brave enough to honour our respective limits and boundaries, whatever they may be. We deserve as much, and plenty more.
