The way your life is, is how it's supposed to be, with all of its pain and all of its beauty.
That's not to say it won't get better or that you can't transform it whenever you choose, but your entire life is supposed to be filled with ups and downs and everything in between.
That's what it means to be alive. That's how you know you're living.
You are a conscious and ever-evolving being, and to get through life unscathed is impossible. For all of us.
So to think that you've failed if something isn't turning out the way you planned it, is to set yourself up for misery.
Why not just join the club of those of us who don't know what the fuck is going on but are still showing up anyways? Because that's most of us.
If you are aware, if you feel, if you think and take chances, if you reflect and course correct, you're doing great, my friend. And you're probably doing much better than you think.
We tend to see the downs and the struggles in our lives as wrong and uninvited. As things we must fix or get rid of, and fast! Because a "good" life is a perpetually happy life and everyone else has their shit together, right?
None of us do. We're all just doing our best. We all have parts that hurt and parts that soar, and days we're on fire and days we're facing it.
But what if we remembered that those times are just as essential as the ones they inspire? The ones that come after the storm.
What if we stopped trying to make everything "right" or perfect (ourselves included), and instead allowed ourselves to move more deeply into what's currently in front and inside of us without thinking it's less than a rosier alternative.
Whatever we are facing or feeling is our life in that moment whether we like it or not.
So give your moments some love. Even the ones you wish would go away. Even the ones you don't understand. Even the ones that cut like a knife. Even the ones in the void.
If you face what needs facing, you'll get to where you need to go.
So move closer to your moments.
They're all you really have.
And they are what make up your tragic and beautiful life.
