I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning absorbing the extraordinary life, photography and philosophy of Jay Alvarrez, an all-around limit-crushing Adonis and noted beloved of beauty, Alexis Ren.
Hours were spent going through their respective Instagram accounts, reading online articles about them (why aren't their more?!), and watching Jay's captivating YouTube videos that showcase his enviable life. And all the while I was thinking, YES, YES, YES! He gets it! He's living it! He's making the most of each moment despite what others think! Bravo, my friend.
There are just no fucks given from this guy. He's living the life of HIS dreams without apology. And you?
Both Jay and Alexis are successful models but that's not the impressive part. They live a life of travel and adventure at a level that I've never seen before (sharks, sky diving, surfing and so much more), but even that isn't what's most fascinating about them - nor is the fact that they seem to share the kind of relationship most can only dream of.
These things could be given to countless others but it doesn't mean they could turn their blessings into art. Most can't. It takes a special kind of spirit to do what they have done.
If you were to go through their Instagram accounts (with almost 5 million followers between the two of them so far), you'd see a charmed life on the surface and you'd probably think, "It must be nice to be that rich, free, young and hot." But underneath there is so much for us to aspire to - and I sure as hell am not referring to anything external.
Together this couple embodies what it means to live fully. Despite appearances and according to what I've read, neither of them came from money. They aren't spoiled little rich kids living off their parents efforts like many commenters assume (and even if they were, so what - it's none of your damn business). In fact, they both lost their mother (been there), and at the age of 14, Jay quit school to LIVE and it was also at age 14 that he got his tattoo on his bottom lip that says, "Let's Live" and he's been living ever since.
A quick glance at the comments on their IG feed and it's clear that many wish this was their life. You'll see #goals come up a lot on there, whether referring to their relationship, their lifestyle, their bodies or all three. And yes, there are some haters aka undercover admirers that simply can't fathom how such a life is possible, especially at such a young age.
But all I see are two people creating and living the life of their dreams and how many of us actually do that? Why be threatened by them or anyone living life to the fullest? Why not be inspired to get off your own ass and go after what YOU most want? Are these two not the most perfect example of living life on your own terms and as richly as possible? Isn't that what we're all after? Don't we all crave something extraordinary? They are proving it's possible. Now go apply some mojo to your own flow.
Seeing Jay and Alexis live their fabulous life doesn't make me hate mine. It makes me want to live even more richly than I already do and in my own little way. A first class lifestyle looks quite different to each of us, and travelling around the world (or anywhere for that matter) is not even on my bucket list. More home time and more kitty cats, please. No sharks or deep sea diving or falling out of the sky, thanks. I'd rather travel the depths inwardly. That's good enough for me.
I'm on a mission that on the surface looks much different than this couple's incredibly colourful one, but on the inside it's the same: making the most of every moment and doing what I love each day and not waiting or asking for permission from the world to do it. That's living well. That's true wealth. And it's all too rare, don't you think?
Jay might be young and he might not be traditionally educated but he's smarter than most of the people I know. He's smart enough to know he's here to LIVE in the present and he's not putting it off for the future like most people do. He didn't wait for this or that to make something happen. He's doing it all right now, as he should.
Let us all aspire to live so well.
P.S. Here's a great interview with Jay you might enjoy.
