Fun Fact: I lose followers / subscribers EVERY time I post things on Instagram or Twitter, every time I send out my weekly newsletter, each day that I Periscope, and I wouldn’t be surprised if people unfollow me daily on my personal Facebook account as well (I’ll never know) and frankly, I don’t care. Up and down, round and round. None of it means a thing.
I’m bringing this up to remind fellow creatives that numbers are not the point. Approval is not the goal. Expressing yourself and / or sharing your art fully and truthfully IS. Over time your tribe will arrive, but not everyone is going to dig what you’re about. You’re gonna be too much for some and not enough for others and so what? Those people will leave and more people will come and it goes on and on and none of it has anything to do with you.
Therefore, don’t let the numbers determine what you do or don’t put out there and please don’t use them to measure your worth or the quality of your work. They aren’t related. A quick look at who’s famous and for what should be proof of that. Just express your gifts and be exactly who you are and let the world take it or leave it.
Rock on, my friend.
