Here’s a picture of me, Christen, our hot waiter and our delicious meal at Dans Le Noir.
Kidding, of course 😏
What an amazing experience Christen made possible for my 42nd birthday celebration! We enjoyed yummy 3 course meal in complete darkness (we both had filet mignon) and I gave up on utensils within seconds and just used my hands throughout each course. The giant portobello mushroom was kinda creepy to eat like that. Not gonna lie.
The best part was when some dishes were dropped and smashed on the ground and everyone in the restaurant clapped and cheered.
It was also fun when people were making random funny sounds and we’d echo the sounds back and they’d do the same with our funny sounds. At one point we were laughing to the point of tears. It was just so organic and random and such a connecting experience.
Afterwards when we were back in the entrance area, two young girls made the sounds we had heard and I told them I was the one making sounds, too, and they and their mother laughed.
I also overheard a waiter answer some guy’s questions about the place (in French, of course!) and found out they offer two sessions per night and the restaurant serves 60-70 people and there are only 4 waiters, each of which are blind.
It was quite unusual and a little scary to eat in the dark for an hour and a half, but Christen and I spent most of that time laughing at our silly jokes about the experience and it really was interesting to be made aware that this is the ongoing reality for those serving us.
Their world looks just like this photo. Can you imagine that 24/7? I sure can’t.
So grateful for sight and every other gift 🖤
