A girlfriend tagged me in the meme below after I told her to break up with her boyfriend for the 5th or 6th time now.
It’s true. I tell a lot of my girlfriends to leave a guy WHEN THEY ARE SETTLING FOR SHIT.
When my friend tries to make excuses for him or defends herself for putting up with garbage or tells me why now isn’t a good time to end things, I tell her what she already knows: “If you want sympathy and understanding, I can’t give it to you. You called the wrong friend. He never follows through. He never makes time for you. You’re not a priority to him. He’s verbally abusive. This junk has gone on for months. You deserve better and you have to claim better for yourself because this has been a mess from the start and it’s only going to get worse.”
I said many other things as well, but nothing makes me angrier than women tolerating shit behaviour from men. I can’t comfortably stand by quietly as a friend settles for so much less than she deserves. It’s genuinely painful and frustrating for me to watch.
So if you come to me for advice about a guy who is treating you like shit, I’m gonna tell you to leave him. No question. I DON’T CARE WHY HE TREATS YOU LIKE GARBAGE AND YOU SHOULDN’T EITHER.
Work on your self-worth and RAISE. YOUR. FUCKING. STANDARDS.
