My tree-loving heart was so unhappy walking down Saginaw tonight where a new plaza, new apartments and new luxury condo townhomes are all being built simultaneously.
I suppose I should have known that no forest or collection of trees will ever be safe from the human desire to create wealth at the expense of nature (because heaven forbid we leave any land as it is since there's zero value in that, apparently), but I silently mourned all that's been destroyed since I last walked in that direction.
I thank the sun for adding beauty to a place where I see nothing but the remains of it now (there are a few rooted gods still standing), and I feel especially grateful tonight for the protected forest that continues to nurture me daily.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Grand River Conservation Authority for protecting what's most sacred, and for giving us all a place to heal, explore and celebrate.
