Two years ago I was a hostess at Blackshop Restaurant and loved it immensely. I got to wear a pretty black dress, had the best co-workers, managers and boss, and the atmosphere was divine. Unfortunately my inability to multi-task, work under pressure and remember most details made me shitty at the actual job, despite how great I was with people.
So, after a few months, the owner and I chatted and mutually agreed it would be best if I left. It was a loving and honest conversation and although I was so sad to leave, I was grateful to no longer be doing work that created great stress for me.
For most people, the job would have been a breeze. But for me and the way my mind works, it was a major struggle. My gifts lie elsewhere. I have laser focus and do many things well, but one thing at a time.
Interestingly enough, I used to bring Too Good Triangles into work for the staff and this was before I turned it into a business. It was actually a young, new waiter who suggested I market and sell them, and once I left Blackshop I got the TGT logo designed, created a Facebook page and spent the next (almost) 2 years pimpin' legal crack.
Funny how life unfolds.
Anyways, today was the first day since I left Blackshop that I wore my work shoes (pictured above) and because of that, I was reminded of how much I loved being there and how I wish things were much easier for me out in the world where things move much faster and it's "normal" to be able to do the things that are lost on me.
Over the years I have learned I work best at home and alone, with just occasional human contact. I thrive when I can go at my own pace and reach out only when I want to, and the more space I have to just "be", the more I can offer humanity.
That being said, I have also realized that running a business from home is not for me (at this time at least), so I am looking elsewhere right now. I recently applied for a part-time position I think I could handle and love and relies on my personality more than anything else, so fingers crossed!
