I have kept a gratitude journal for many years now, and my current one is a bright orange (my favourite colour!). It was a Mother's Day gift to myself since I. HAD. TO. HAVE. IT. LIKE. NOW. because it was the prettiest gratitude journal I had ever seen.
From one day to the next, nothing much changes in this journal. New additions do make their way on occasion, but for the most part I'm singing the same tune each and every day.
A random page will look something like this:
Thank you for…
* my beautiful home
* increasing order in all areas
* increasing self-love
* my kitties
* a close relationship with Paige
* daily chats with Melanie
* food, clean water, lemons, shelter
* technology and social media
* my Mac and my iPhone
* cyber interaction
* my beautiful website
* electricity, heat, toilets
* freedom, safety
* my health
* dry roads, my sexy bike
* the sun, nature
* hope for the future
Although 2015 is sure to bring many more things to be grateful for, I know that the basics won't change that much. I don't fill these pages mindlessly though, even though they are pretty repetitive.
I genuinely AM grateful for all these things. All the time.
I don't take it for granted that I am able to walk, live in a country that is free of war, have a platform that I can use to add light to this world, and have food and water just a few steps away.
We are so spoiled and privileged in these parts that we rarely contemplate how good we've got it.
Don't minimize your struggle(s) but do cultivate a grateful heart. The "little" things are always the biggest in the end anyways, so take stock of what you've got.
And may you wake up tomorrow with all that you're grateful for today.
