Mandyland in 2014 was a mix of ups and downs. Can you relate?
The ups included: My Neighbour From Hell Moved Out, My Second Literary Award Nomination, the creation of my beautiful new website, My Vegan Experiment, Loving My Injury Because It Reminds Me Of My Daughter, My Shampoo-Free Adventure, a few great haircuts along the way including a kickass asymmetrical bob and this DevaCurl do, and I can't forget that my daughter moved out for the first time which had me going straight From Woohoo To Boohoo.
The downs included a very dark depression that I spoke about candidly in When You Just Want To Die, and a few months later, the unfortunate death of Robin Williams allowed me to articulate my own struggles more clearly in Not Just Because He's Famous and So Close To Home It Hurts.
Through all the pain that 2014 brought - physical, emotional and otherwise - I was inspired to offer some of my rawest writings to date.
I'm tempted to say that this wasn't a good year for me, but that would imply that everything that happened wasn't custom-made for the quickest and highest evolution of my soul and the refining of my life, body and spirit, which I believe it was. I was delivered the exact conditions necessary for me to move beyond past limitations and make way for the greatest version of myself to date.
Expanding beyond our previous Self is a never-ending process; one that we can never fuck up or finish because transformation is as natural as breathing. We cannot help but grow and change through all that we experience, and we can never be the same person we were just moments ago; let alone yesterday or last year.
Wherever we find ourselves at any step along the way is precisely where we need to be, and we will have everything else that we need when the time comes.
Just like clockwork, we are faced, moment by moment, with exactly what we need to take us swiftly to the next glorious moment, the next sacred level, and the next great adventure. We would be fools to think that things are only getting worse. That's not even possible.
Nothing is by accident and there are no mistakes.
We are continually being led directly to where we are meant to go, and the sooner we consciously jump on board and get out of our own way, the swifter each transition will be.
Even when it feels like our world is falling apart, we're doing better than we've ever done. We're closer than we've ever been. And we've come so much further than we're giving ourselves credit for.
If we're going through the fire, it's because our soul is calling for more than we are willing to claim for ourselves, and all that no longer fits the expanded self must inevitably fall away.
This is a great thing. It's the scariest thing. But we will break on through to the other side even brighter, richer, happier, and more aligned than ever before.
Only warriors have the courage to keep going amidst the darkness, rubble and confusion, and a warrior is exactly what you are, my friend, so just keep going.
2015 will be your best year yet.
Pinky swear and no doubt about it.
