As mentioned in my previous post, Shampoo-Free (Weeks 6 & 7), I experienced a major breakthrough hair-wise when all the gunk from the previous 7 1/2 weeks had finally left after my double egg wash. I thought for sure the transition was complete and I looked forward to seeing how my "new" hair would adapt to life in Mandyland.
Well, the celebration was short-lived. The picture above was taken at the start of week 8 when things were still going well, but since then it's been a bit of a roller coaster.
I'm now nearing the end of week 10 and here's what I have to say about the past two weeks:
After that first egg wash, my hair stayed soft and heavenly for a few days and then got very oily and actually looked wet, which was a HUGE disappointment because I genuinely thought I was through the transition. I tried a water wash which didn't help in the least, so exactly one week after my first egg wash, I did a second egg wash so that I could get rid of the oiliness. It worked so well the first time that I thought I'd give it another whirl, but although it did make the oil go away for a second time, it simply returned the very next day.
So I spent another full week (Week 9 - pictured above) frustrated with my hair not being the magical thing it once was in the middle of week 7. It had become damp looking and feeling, and devoid of my lovely waves. In the 10th week, I did one water wash mid-week and a third egg wash on Saturday, which just passed.
Thankfully, the oiliness is minimal compared to the past two weeks, but my hair is definitely not at its best.
If I thought this was as good as it can get, I'd return to shampoo within the hour just to have "normal" hair that I can count on to be the same from one day to the next. But I trust it will sort itself out eventually. From what I've read, some hotties have hair that transitions in a week or a few weeks, while others endure this process for months.
It's been 2 1/2 months now and trust me, I have no problem sticking to this for as long as it takes if I know I'm guaranteed the end result I've been envisioning. What has been hard though, is dealing with the fact that I thought I was done and it turned out I wasn't.
I didn't know you could get to the point where your hair was the best it's ever been, and then STILL have more to transition through. Womp womp.
What I'm really happy to share though, is that my hair seems to be growing very quickly and I barely lose any hair anymore. When I used to shampoo regularly, I lost a lot of hair each time. Partly due to the stress of this year I imagine, but also because of the process of shampooing.
Now, the few times I've washed my hair with water or with egg, I barely lose any hair. Guaranteed it's 1/10th of what I used to lose. That's amazing to me. Granted, my stress levels are basically at zero these days, but whatever the reason for the change, I'm loving it!
One last thing I want to mention is that although the egg wash is a miracle cleaner and conditioner, I have noticed that my waves don't thrive when they are super clean. I think they need a day or two of recovery time after a washing just to bounce back which never uses to be the case. Or maybe they need a bit of dirt to form properly? I'm hoping this will shift soon. I have read that once hair is fully transitioned, waves and curls are better than they've ever been.
I can't wait for that to happen. Fingers crossed that it happens soon!
